Gold Creek Snowshoe Trip
New outing details:
This one-day trip is a great opportunity to have fun in the snowy wilderness just off of I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass. The easy hike is approximately three miles long with an elevation change of less than 300 feet through beautiful snow covered surroundings. No previous snowshoeing experience is necessary and the outing is a chance to practice snowshoeing in preparation for winter backpacking trips later in the season. The hike is particularly well suited for Scouts, Webelos and parents.
We'll meet at Bethany and carpool to the trailhead together. The first leg of the hike will be along a well-trodden logging road. Then we'll head off into the woods to experience breaking new trails and navigating in the snow. Midday, we'll break for lunch and make hot cocoa. On our way home, we'll stop at XXX for a hefty mug of root beer before returning to the hill.
Boy Scouts: It is important for you to participate on this trip because it is a requirement for future snow outings. Any Scout who wishes to go on our Snow Caves outing in March must have previously participated in a winter backpacking outing with the Troop. Any Scout who wishes to go on our Blewitt Pass winter backpacking outing in February must have previously participated in a snowshoe hike with the Troop.
Webelos: This is a great outing for you. It is an opportunity to learn how to hike in snowshoes if you're new to snowshoeing; it is an opportunity to practice navigation in the wilderness; it is an opportunity to learn more about what it's like to go on a Boy Scout outing; and it's a lot of fun.
Those interested in participating should sign up by completing an Outing Participation Slip, and returning it along with their outing fee before the sign-up deadline. The $20 outing fee covers the cost of transportation, parking permits, lunch, and snacks at XXX (there is no outing fee for adults). Troop 72 will provide snowshoes for everyone who does not have their own. Gear/clothing lists, departure & return times, and other outing details will be sent to those who sign up.
