Join Troop 72 for an introductory-level backpacking trip to Sheep Lake. This two day, one-night outing takes us to a pristine alpine lake on the Pacific Crest Trail near Chinook Pass. The route includes a 2.5-mile hike with moderate elevation gain. The location and route for the trip have been selected to provide an approachable taste of backpacking and the types of outings that Troop 72 engages in.
The Sheep Lake outing is organized to be an Introduction to Backpacking for those with little or no backpacking experience. Members of the Troop will host an informational meeting on Monday, 6/11/18 at 7:00 at Bethany Presbyterian Church to explain the gear and clothing required for backpacking in the northwest, and to instruct how to use it.
The outing fee covers meals (Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, Sunday lunch), transportation and other group costs. There is not an outing fee for adult participants. Troop 72 provides all group gear, including tents and cooking equipment. Scholarships are available for this and other outings.
To sign up for the outing, complete an Outing Participation Slip and submit it along with an outing fee on the Intro to Backpacking meeting on 6/11/18 (checks should be made out to "Troop 72," with the name of the participant and the name of the outing on the memo line). If you have any questions, please contact the Scoutmaster.
